Achilles tendon rupture
The rupture of the Achilles tendon is usually caused by degenerative changes and a minimal trauma. Generally the patients are older than 30-40 years. During sport activity they feel sudden pain above the heel, often accompanied by a slash noise. It's impossible to stand on the foot-tips.
Diagnosis is done by clinical lack of the continuity of the achilles tendon. Echographic examination confirms the tendon rupture.
Treatment: conservative treatment is seldom advised. Surgical treatment with traditional approach or minimalinvasive approach. After surgery immobilization is recommended for 6 weeks.
